Robert’s Story

by Connie Kent

Robert was to be discharged from the hospital late Friday afternoon without treatment, after undergoing 48 hours of inconclusive diagnostic procedures. He was still disabled with the same symptoms that had caused his hospitalization, but his problem wasn’t acute, and there was nothing more the hospital could do for him. Ready to discharge him, Asante called Rogue Valley Manor to ensure that he would have adequate home care upon return to his cottage. There was no answer.

Robert had no need for and no prescription for Home Health care, but the hospital recognized and even stipulated in his discharge papers, that he would need help getting around and taking care of himself in his disabled state, in other words, Home Care. Fortunately for Robert, his daughter, a recently retired paramedic, was with him, and the hospital agreed to discharge him knowing she would be able to assist him at home.
