The Complement will be…

The Complement is part newsletter, part reference/information source, and part outlet for resident ideas and creations. It complements rather than competing with other campus publications, providing information, content, and ideas that are not now aavailable.

What does the Complement provide that we otherwise lack?  We have no outlet for resident writing, whether prose or poetry, fiction or non-fiction.  Although we have exhibitions of hanging art and have one craft fair per year, there is little display of the vast quantity of 3-D art, crafts and collections on campus.  We will offer both contributed and solicited photo displays.

Calendars, notices and lists are provided by Bits & Pieces and myRVM, but we intend to produce concise, consolidated and accessible calendars of events.

Finally, there is no place but the poor overloaded RVMlist for sharing discussion of extensive RVM-relevant news and ideas, — for which RVMlist was never intended or designed.  Complement to the rescue, with not only resident submissions but online comment opportunities and editorial syntheses as well.

We will be joining a group of resident-produced sites or newsletters at other PRS facilities.  The most impressive is 3550, the quarterly magazine of the Portland Mirabella.  Another Pacific Northwest example is the (Seattle) Mirabella Monthly (not an open website, but available by email subscription).  We want to thank Ed Parker, Anne Clark, and Steve Casey, residents of the Portland Mirabella, for their generous help with both emergency preparedness and on-line publication.

The Complement will be flexible in its updates, but issues will be defined on a monthly basis. Format and content emphasis will develop in response to reader feedback.  It will have both topic editors and advisors, and will have well-defined standards to ensure that published matter is relevant, accurate, and civil. Constructive identification or discussion of problems will be welcome as long as these standards are met.  We seek diversity of content and breadth of participation.

EDITORS:  Bob Buddemeier, Joni Johnson, Connie Kent, and George Yates.  Staff: Reina Lopez, Diane Friedlander, Robert Mumby and Tom Conger.  WE WELCOME OTHER PARTICIPANTS
