What to Wear in Oregon

The Cowboy Look

The Cowboy Look

Western wear is most common east of the Cascades, which is dominated by open fields and plains where cattle and sheep may outnumber people. Wide brimmed hats, denims, some popular brands: Carhartt, Wrangler, Levi’s, Arai and Dickies; boots and western style shirts predominate. It is acceptable wear in Medford.

The Farmer Look

Logo caps, Hoodies, denim, lace-up boots and brands such as Carhartt, Lee and Wrangler are popular.

The Medford Look

Any casual clothes with fabric shoes will do; suits acceptable. Outdoor clothing is popular with such brands as North Face, Columbia and Nike. Don’t forget your hoodies.

The Portland Look

Suits (ties optional), designer dresses, leather shoes, raincoats, punk clothing with combat boots, the Medford Look, athletic clothing, whatever else you can imagine. Don’t forget your umbrella.

(still Portland)… punk clothing…

(also in Portland)… combat boots ‘n camo…

(more Portland)… and whatever else you can imagine. Note that the costume also serves the function of umbrella.

Winter Wear

Puffy coats, wool and other clothing for 30 to 50 degree temperatures. Snow is rare in the valley but there’s lots in the surrounding mountains.

Summer Wear

Light-weight clothing, shorts, sandals and sunscreen are sufficient now. Those with hair loss would be wise to wear hats or caps.

As global warming continues; Arabic styles will provide more comfort and protection from temperatures approaching 120°.
