Go Bag

Sheltering in place is what we expect to do and will probably spend the most time doing in the event of a disaster (think quarantine!) but there may come a time when it’s best to move.

Maybe your home is damaged and you have to move down the street (or hallway) to find shelter. Maybe you hear there is a wildfire moving quickly along the Bear Creek corridor. Maybe a National Guard truck pulls up and the sergeant tells you and your neighbors that you have 10 minutes to get aboard with whatever you can carry. In any case, you will realize that there are things you need to take with you, and that it’s a little late to start packing.

A go-bag, also known as a bugout bag, is a portable container that is pre-packed with things that you need to take with you if you have to leave home quickly and unexpectedly. It needs to be stored where you can get it promptly, and it needs to be something you can carry or drag easily. The contents will depend on your abilities and needs, and if you have a car, there is likely to be a lot of overlap between that emergency equipment and what you have in your bag.

The picture below shows and lists some of the appropriate contents for a moderate-to-light-weight Go-Bag./
